Third seeds Robert Lindstedt and Horia Tecau recorded their 21st victory in 23 matches on Saturday at the US Open as they reached the third round with a 6-7(3), 6-4, 6-3 victory over French pairing Benoit Paire and Edouard Roger-Vasselin.

The Swedish/Romanian duo are enjoying a scintillating run of form that has seen them win titles in ‘s-Hertogenbosch (d. Cabal/Tursunov), Bastad (d. Peya/Soares) and Cincinnati (d. Bhupathi/Bopanna) and reach the Wimbledon final for the third year in a row (l. to Marray/Nielsen). They are bidding to win their first Grand Slam title in New York.

Defending champions Jurgen Melzer and Philipp Petzschner were beaten in the second round, falling to British tandem Jamie Delgado and Ken Skupski 7-6(3), 7-6(7) in one hour and 37 minutes. Melzer and Petzschner won their second Grand Slam title last year with victory over Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski.

Delgado and Skupski have reached two ATP World Tour finals this season, finishing runners-up in Eastbourne (l. to Fleming/Hutchins) and Los Angeles (l. to Bemelmans/Malisse).

American brothers Christian Harrison and Ryan Harrison backed up their shock first-round win over Polish Power Fyrstenberg and Matkowski by ousting Israelis Jonathan Erlich and Andy Ram 6-4, 6-4 in 85 minutes. They go onto face British No. 14 seeds Colin Fleming and Ross Hutchins, who defeated Americans Brian Baker and Rajeev Ram 7-5, 6-3.

Elsewhere, No. 16 seeds Santiago Gonzalez and Scott Lipsky set up a third-round clash with No. 2 seeds Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan after beating Spaniards Pablo Andujar and Guillermo Garcia-Lopez 6-4, 6-1.

Ninth seeds Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi and Jean-Julien Rojer were granted a spot in their third round when their opponents, Carlos Berlocq and Leonardo Mayer were forced to retire three games into the match.
