Top-seeded Spaniard David Ferrer recorded his 50th match win of the season (50-9 overall) on Saturday by beating sixth seed Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria 6-3, 7-5 for a place in the SkiStar Swedish Open final.

The 30 year old will attempt to capture the Bastad title for second time on Sunday, when he contests his 31st ATP World Tour final (15-15 overall).

The 2007 champion and 2011 runner-up took a 3-0 lead in the first set and saved two set points at 4-5, 15/40 in the second set en route to victory in one hour and 34 minutes. Dimitrov, 21, also lost in the AEGON Championships semi-finals at The Queen’s Club (l. to Nalbandian) last month.

“I didn’t serve well today,” said Ferrer. “I saved good points and I was a bit lucky in the [second] set. I’m very happy to be in the final here in Bastad.”

Ferrer will meet fellow Spaniard and No. 2 seed Nicolas Almagro. Ferrer, who has a 10-0 lead in his FedEx ATP Head2Head series against Almagro, said, “I have played him many times before and if I know I will have to run a lot on the court.”

Almagro, the 2010 champion and 2007 runner-up, beat Jan Hajek of the Czech Republic 6-4, 6-3 in 68 minutes. It was their first meeting for more than five years.

World No. 10 Almagro improved to a 31-7 record on clay courts (43-12 overall) this year after he hit eight aces past Hajek for a place in his 18th ATP World Tour final (12-5 mark).

“Well I played really good,” said Almagro. “I think I played my best tennis here in Bastad today and during the week. Tomorrow is a final again, it’s a special match and I want to win here.

“It will be tough for sure, like every match that we have played. I want to do my best so we are going to fight.”
