Andy Murray continued his preparations for Wimbledon next week with a highly competitive and entertaining grass-court match against fellow top ten player Janko Tipsarevic at The Boodles on Wednesday.

“It’s always good to get matches like this in before a big event,” said Murray, who will be seeded four at Wimbledon. “The grass here is excellent and this was a good test. I felt like I was moving a lot better than I was last week.”

Murray narrowly lost the match to Tipsarevic after the talented Serbian edged him out 6-7(5), 6-4, 10-7 in a match tiebreaker but the standard of tennis from both men had the crowd in raptures.

American John Isner seems be enjoying his first taste of The Boodles. The 6ft 9in American played two tough sets against another tournament debutant and recent Queen’s champion Marin Cilic. Cilic continued his winning run on grass with a 6-4, 6-4.

Long time The Boodles favourite David Nalbandian returned to Stoke Park for the final match of the day on Wednesday, taking on Spain’s Nicolas Almagro in an encounter which entertained the crowd in the early evening sunlight. Nalbandian eventually prevailed 3-6, 6-3, 10-4, courtesy of the match tiebreaker, which is played in all The Boodles matches in lieu of a third set.

Murray will return to The Boodles for a meeting with World No.1 Novak Djokovic in Thursday’s opening match. This will mark the second year in succession that both men have played at Stoke Park. Former US Open champion Juan Martin Del Potro takes on Alexandr Dolgopolov next before Stanislas Wawrinka and Gilles Simon face off in the final match of the day.
