Eastbourne

Singles – First Round: Y Lu def. (5) J Benneteau 6-3 2-6 7-6(7-4)

Julien Benneteau loses his chance to reach the Top Thirty — but Yen-Hsun Lu’s love affair with grass has him on the verge of the Top Fifty.

Singles – First Round: (6/WC) A Roddick def. S Querrey 5-2, retired (back)

A depressing way for Andy Roddick to break his losing streak, but right now, he’ll probably take just about anything. Still, it makes you worry more than a little. Mardy Fish s still out. Roddick is messed up. Donald Young seems to have lost whatever he found earlier in the year. And now Sam Querrey hurting again….

Singles – First Round: (7) P Kohlschreiber def. G Soeda 6-4 7-5

Another Top Fifty chance gone for Go Soeda.

Singles – First Round: S Darcis def. (Q) M Ebden 6-2 6-4

Odd to see Steve Darcis here rather than in the Netherlands, but it obviously worked out pretty well.

Singles – First Round: D Istomin def. M Llodra 6-4 6-3

No points yet for Denis Istomin, but if he wins his next match, he will almost certainly hit the Top Forty.

Singles – Second Round: (Q) Marinko Matosevic def. (1) R Gasquet 1-6 7-6(7-5) 7-6(7-3)

Richard Gasquet won two-thirds of the points in the first set, but then let things slip. He will not rise above #19, although it’s not at all likely that he will fall.

Doubles – First Round: (WC) Inglot/Marray def. (2) Granollers/M Lopez 6-3 6-3

Doubles – First Round: Elgin/Istomin def. (4) Huey/Marach 6-3 7-6(7-4)

Doubles – First Round: Bracciali/Seppi def. Butorac/J Murray 7-6(12-10) 6-2

Not the best start to the Booty & Stretch reunion. But then, it’s worth remembering that Eric Butorac did a lot better without Jamie Murray than vice versa….

Doubles – First Round: Andujar/Ramos def. Darcis/Kukushkin 7-5 1-6 10-6 (Match TB)

Doubles – First Round: Erlich/A Ram def. Berlocq/Lu 6-3 6-4

Doubles – First Round: Ebden/Young def. Fognini/Moser 4-6 6-3 12-10 (Match TB)

Doubles – First Round: Fleming/Hutchins def. Hanley/Knowle 6-3 6-4

‘s-Hertogenbosch

Singles – First Round: (1) D Ferrer def. (Q) P Duclos 6-4 6-4

David Ferrer cannot add points here. It will be interesting to see how many matches he really wants to play.

Singles – First Round: X Malisse def. (2) V Troicki 7-6(7-4) 6-2

There really isn’t any question these days about what is Xavier Malisse’s best surface. He leaves Viktor Troicki still stuck below the Top Thirty.

Singles – First Round: E Roger-Vasselin def. (7) A Bogomolov Jr. 6-4 6-4

Alex Bogomolov Jr. will remain below #45. It really doesn’t seem as if he will be Top Fifty much longer.

Singles – First Round: (8) L Kubot def. D Sela 6-1 6-2

Lukas Kubot, by contrast, all but guarantees his Top Fifty place. One more win would clinch it. And he is one of only three seeds left in the draw.

Singles – First Round: F Cipolla def. P Starace 4-2, retired (lower back)

Well, it’s not as if Potito Starace was going to do much on grass anyway. But this raises a slight risk that he will fall out of the Top Hundred.

Doubles – First Round: (2) Qureshi/Rojer def. Falla/Giraldo 7-6(7-4) 6-2

Five grass wins already this year for Qureshi/Rojer.

Doubles – First Round: Cabal/Tursunov def. (4) Lipsky/Paes 6-2 7-5

This is the first genuinely positive sign for Dmitry Tursunov in his comeback.

Doubles – First Round: Becker/Petzschner def. Haase/Nieminen 6-2 7-6(9-7)
