Max Mirnyi and Daniel Nestor have moved into a tie with each other for the World No. 1 ATP Doubles Ranking. The partners, who both have 9,060 points, replace Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan. The American twins had shared the No. 1 individual spot for 90 consecutive weeks.

“I was not really aware of the points count this week, but am certainly conscious of our consistency and the good work that we’ve been able to put in during the last year and a half,” Mirnyi told ATPWorldTour.com. “Getting to the top of the rankings is a great achievement at any point and something you dream of as a professional. I am proud of being surrounded by a great group of guys in the rankings!”

Since joining forces in 2011, the Belarusian/Canadian duo has etched itself as one of the premier teams on tour, capturing six titles, including the Roland Garros trophy and season-ending Barclays ATP World Tour Finals last year. This season, they began the year by triumphing at the Brisbane International(d. Melzer/Petzschner) and successfully defended their crown at the Regions Morgan Keegan Championships in Memphis (d. Dodig/Melo). They also reached back-to-back ATP World Tour Masters 1000 finals at the Sony Open Tennis in Miami (l. to Paes/Stepanek) and the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters (l. to Bryan/Bryan).

The Bryans dropped as a result of a calendar shift, which saw their champions’ points from the Mutua Madrid Open come off a week early. During their latest run at the top, the two overtook John McEnroe for the most weeks in history at No. 1 on 12 December, 2011. Previously, Nestor, and past partner Nenad Zimonjic, were the last players to usurp the Bryans atop the rankings, having occupied it for the final time on 9 August, 2010.

Nestor adds to his fifth-place standing on the all-time list with his 116th week at the top, while Mirnyi notches his 40th week as World No. 1 to move into a tie for 16th with John Fitzgerald. Mirnyi is ranked No. 1 for the first time since 9 April, 2007, when he led the Bryans by a mere five points.

“I want to use this opportunity to thank my partner Daniel Nestor for your everyday dedication and the hard work you put in on and off the court in helping me to get to the top again,” said Mirnyi. “And much love goes out to my family, who has always believed in me and supported through all the highs and lows of my career!”
