Roger Federer

Watching Roger Federer play is truly inspiring. The way he moves on the court and makes every shot look so easy makes me want to get out on the court and do the same (although most of the time I’m not quite as successful). My favorite shot of Rogers’ is his one handed backhand. He easily has one of best one handed backhands in tennis right now and is one of the smoothest I can remember. I hit a one handed backhand as well, so watching Roger hit his teaches me the footwork and balance I need to hit a strong shot.

Although Roger is no longer the number one player in the world, he is still my idol and gets my vote every tournament. I love to see him succeed because he has worked so hard and he seems like a genuinely good person. Ever since I was little I have always loved watching Roger play and I do believe that watching him play so many times has made me a smarter, better tennis player. His talent and tennis IQ are far superior to most of his adversaries and that is why he was on top for so long. He is a mental giant. It is very uncommon to see Roger lose it emotionally on the court or to get frustrated or angry. Many players, such as Jon McEnroe, get angry and let their emotions get the best of them. This brings their game down and ultimately leads to losses. Roger never gets upset on the court and always keeps his composure like the true champion that he is.

Although the result was not what I had hoped for,  2008 Wimbledon Final was my favorite Federer match. The fact that Federer looked down and out and pull out two consecutive tie breakers was truly amazing. Nadal and Federer always have great matches when they meet and watching them is always exciting. Roger has been a great inspiration throughout my whole life and has taught me to always fight through my problems on and off the tennis courts. He is a true champion and regardless of his current world ranking, he will always be my number one.
