Singles – Third Round: (1) Victoria Azarenka def. (WC) Heather Watson 6-0 6-2

Not exactly a surprising result, is it? Still, Heather Watson earned enough points that she should rise about 15 places above her current #129.

Singles – Third Round: (5) Agnieszka Radwanska def. Silvia Soler-Espinosa 6-1 6-2

Agnieszka Radwanska again leads Samantha Stosur in the contest for #4. She leaves Silvia Soler-Espinosa probably a little above #65.

Singles – Third Round: (7) Marion Bartoli def. Simona Halep 6-4 7-6(8-6)

Simona Halep definitely had her chances in the second set of this, but couldn’t hold her lead. Which means she will end up probably #46 or #47. Marion Bartoli is still trailing Li Na in the contest for #7, but she keeps it close.

Singles – Third Round: (15) Ana Ivanovic def. (20) Daniela Hantuchova 6-2 7-6(7-2)

Daniela Hantuchova defended her points, but she will still fall at least one place, to #20; Maria Kirilenko might still boot her out of the Top Twenty. Ana Ivanovic has added enough points that she is almost certain to hit the Top Fifteen; she knocks out Angelique Kerber.

Singles – Third Round: (16) Dominika Cibulkova def. Zheng Jie 6-2 6-0

There goes Zheng Jie’s Top Thirty chance. She adds points but will actually fall in the rankings. Dominika Cibulkova also adds points, but neither does she move upward — yet. She needs at least one more win, and that win will presumably have to come against Victoria Azarenka.

Singles – Third Round: (22) Maria Kirilenko def. Ksenia Pervak 6-2 6-1

Ksenia Pervak gains a spot or two, but this loss means she will not rise above #35. Maria Kirilenko will likely make the Top Twenty if she wins her next match.

Singles – Third Round: (WC) Garbine Muguruza Blanco def. (24) Flavia Pennetta 6-2 1-6 7-6(8-6)

This just gets stranger and stranger. Flavia Pennetta should hit the Top 25 — but, of course, it is Garbine Muguruza Blanco who is really moving. She came in at #208. She has now increased her points by almost 50%, and is up to around #160.

Singles – Third Round: (WC) Venus Williams def. (WC) Aleksandra Wozniak 4-6 6-4 7-6(7-5)

This took almost three hours, and was the Big Match of the day. And, yes, the points do count for Venus — she will rise from #134 to around #105. Another win would put her back in the Top Hundred. Aleksandra Wozniak will be around #60.

Doubles – Second Round: (6) Errani/Vinci def. (WC) Groenefeld/Martic 7-6(7-4) 6-1

Doubles – Second Round: Makarova/Zheng def. Birnerova/Jans-Rosolska 6-4 6-2
