Singles – First Round: (Q) Camila Giorgi def. (1) Nadia Petrova 6-4 6-2

This is a good surface for Nadia Petrova, but she really seems messed up right now. This will leave her still stuck below #30.

Singles – First Round: (3) Lucie Hradecka def. Anna Tatishvili 6-3 6-1

This doesn’t yet count for Lucie Hradecka. Her next win will.

Singles – First Round: (4) Marina Erakovic def. Sloane Stephens 4-6 6-0 6-1

Looks like Marina Erakovic is glad to get away from clay! This doesn’t affect her ranking much, but if she can make the semifinal, she will likely hit the Top Fifty.

Singles – First Round: Michaella Krajicek def. (6) Elena Baltacha 6-2 6-1

Elena Baltacha will stay stuck around #60.

Singles – First Round: Sofia Arvidsson def. Heather Watson 6-2 6-3

The last couple of years have not been good for Sofia Arvidsson, but this event has a history of bringing her to life….

Singles – First Round: Lesia Tsurenko def. Alexa Glatch (Q) 2-6 7-6(6-5) 6-2

This doesn’t quite defend Lesia Tsurenko’s points, but one more win would defend them and let her move up a little.

Singles – First Round: Vera Dushevina def. (WC) Madison Keys 6-2 7-5

Vera Dushevina needs another win to approximately defend her points, but this is a fair start.

Singles – First Round: Varvara Lepchenko def. (WC) Lauren Davis 7-5 6-3

Varvara Lepchenko, who just made it into the Top Hundred, will probably move above #90 after this win.

Doubles – First Round: (1) Hlavackova/Hradecka def. Pavlovic/Rodina 6-0 6-3

Doubles – First Round: (2) Dushevina/Govortsova def. Dolonts/Foretz Gacon 5-6 6-2 10-8 (Match TB)

Doubles – First Round: (4) Krajicek/Tatishvili def. Kondratieva/Lefevre 6-2 6-0

Doubles – First Round: Watson/Woehr def. Brianti/Parmentier 6-3 6-1

Doubles – First Round: Lee-Waters/Moulton-Levy def. (WC) Hibberd/Welcher 6-0 6-0

The wildcard was probably a dream for Hibberd/Welcher, who have no experience. Winning only thirteen points in twelve games — that probably wasn’t so much fun.
