“10s Whenever” Newsletter, Vol. 42

*Time for Finals Action*

Date: 26 January 2012

Just a day ago the top 4 players dominated the men’s singles circuit. Thursday night one of those men was knocked out of the tournament. Now, just who was it? Roger Federer. Sadly his year long Slam drought continues after the Australian Open but that does not mean good things aren’t in his future. Maria Sharapova shrugged of Petra Kvitova in their recent semifinals match. Sharapova plays Victoria Azarenka of Belarus in the women’s singles finals on Saturday. Leander Paes is doing very well in this tournament making it to the men’s doubles finals as well as the mixed doubles semifinals. Stick around for the last three days of the Australian Open, and find out whether this year will be a repeat of last year for Andy Murray in the finals. As you all know the tennis won’t stop after the slam and we’re already prepared for whats next. Stick with us if you want to keep up to date!

Roger Federer- Responsible for his own Downfall?

He might be 0-6 against Djokovic but one thing is for sure, Rafael Nadal always had a big psychological advantage against Roger Federer. And today was no different. Nadal won a tough 4 setter against Federer to extend his H2H 18-9. I have been a Federer fan for last 6 years. And to see him on the down roll after playing such vintage tennis throughout the tournament was heartbreaking. [Read More]

The Mighty Federer is Out—Nathan’s Notice

Roger Federer lost his chance at winning his 17th Grand Slam Thursday night at the Australian Open. Federer’s chances of winning the Australian Open were extremely hyped up when he began the tournament, mostly due to his confident talk about quickly becoming world No.1 again. Federer last won the Australian Open title in 2010 and has not won a single Grand Slam since. [Read More]

Illusory injuries? Damaged dissidents? Or, genuine grievances….?

It’s January! There’s not much of a break for tennis players over Christmas, but this is still the start of the season. Far too early for these well fettled athletes in the prime of their lives to complain of injury isn’t it? Murray’s neck – surely to have it’s own entry in the Oxford English dictionary soon (“Doctor doctor, I’ve got this pain in my neck” “Looks like Murray neck to me sonny”); Djokovic’s leg; Nadal’s shoulder and leg; only the grand old master Federer seems injury free at this nascent stage of the 2012 season. The Federer Effect XII – “The Good the Bad and the Ugly”

THE GOOD: After a week of waiting for the mail everyday with Christmas-like anticipation, I get a text from my UPS store, “you have a package” I’m pretty sure it’s finally arrived and I’m right, my new Nike RF Jacket–all new material and freshly designed. Very subtle, khaki with a black RF logo emblazoned on the right upper sleeve…quite different from the last three seasonal issues. As I begin to try it on, slipping on the left sleeve I sense a wash or warm wave of heightened awareness and everything seems clearer. [Read More]
