During the brief off-season, Mahesh Bhupathi is acting as a judge on an Indian reality show for entrepreneurs called “The Pitch.”
The doubles specialist Bhupathi has owned his own company, Globosport, for seven years. It represents tennis players Somdev Devvarman and Indian junior Kyra Schroff, as well as some cricket players. The company has also put on a number of tennis and golf tournaments, oversees Bhupathi’s tennis academy, manufactures sports surfaces and also represents variety of Bollywood actors and actresses.
“I don’t think business is something I had a natural aptitude for,” Bhupathi told the Hindustan Times. “It was one of those things I learnt as I went along. Of course, being a tennis player helped in some ways, the networking, also tennis teaches you problem solving and thinking on your feet. I am as involved in the business as I can be.”
One of Bhupathi’s former clients, mixed doubles partner and friends, India’s top woman player Sania Mirza, is now represented by the Cornerstone agency.
