“Wozzilroy” Could Boost Earnings
Golfer Rory McIlroy and WTA No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki’s public romantic relationship could bring in further dollars to the already wealthy couple. Some marketing executives say that “Wozzilroy” the nickname of the couple, could further boost their earnings.
“Suddenly, lifestyle and fashion magazines will be interested in McIlroy because he is Wozniacki’s boyfriend, when they would never have shown much interest in a golfer,” Nigel Currie of UK sports agency Brand Rapport told the Irish Times.
Michael Cullen, editor of the Dublin-based Marketing magazine, agreed: “It’s early days yet but if they stay together they would likely be very appealing for all sorts of brands. Being a couple can only help their brands to grow.”
US Open champion McIlroy is planning to relocate to Florida in 2012 to play the PGA circuit, which will help boost his profile in the important and large US Market.
Wozniacki is based in Monaco, but is also planning on spending some time training in Florida.
Wozniacki is said to be earning around $8 million a year off court.
