POSPISIL THROUGH TO THE SECOND ROUND IN NEW YORK / POSPISIL AU DEUXIÈME TOUR À NEW YORK  |

Montréal, August 31, 2011 – At the US Open this afternoon, Vasek Pospisil, the last Canadian standing in the singles draw of the US Open, won his first round match. While his compatriots all fell in the opening round, the 20-year-old Vancouverite was out to turn things around for Canada.

In his very first Grand Slam appearance, Pospisil has not shown any signs of inexperience. He won three qualifying matches before locking horns today with Lukas Rosol of the Czech Republic, who is currently ranked 65th in the world. Taking the lead early on, Pospisil never let his opponent back in the match. With 13 aces and 13 winners, the Canadian claimed victory in three sets of 6-1, 6-2 and 6-1 in 82 minutes. Today’s match is the second big win for Pospisil this summer. He beat world no.24 Juan Ignacio Chela of Argentina at the Rogers Cup presented by National Bank just a few weeks ago.

In the second round, Pospisil will go head-to-head with the winner of the match between Feliciano Lopez of Spain and Tatsuma Ito of Japan.
