NESTOR SCORES 800TH CAREER DOUBLES WIN
Montreal, QC – May 26, 2011 – Daniel Nestor (Toronto, ON) won the 800th doubles match of his career on Thursday in first round action at Roland-Garros. The 38-year-old and his partner Max Mirnyi of Belarus defeated the French team of Gaël Monfils and Josselin Ouanna 7-6(6), 6-3.
Nestor has the most doubles match wins among active players on the ATP World Tour. His 800 victories have come with 21 different partners. Currently ranked no. 3 in the world, he has twice finished the season as the top-ranked doubles player in the world. In addition, Nestor has won six Grand Slam titles and completed the career Grand Slam. He also took home the Olympic gold medal at the 2000 Sydney Summer Games with Sébastien Lareau. “Considering all the years he’s played, it’s obvious that he is extremely dedicated,” said Lareau. “He had an amazing serve, amazing touch but what’s really impressive is that he was able to play for such a long time and stay competitve for so long. His longevity is remarkable.”
Nestor has gone 18 straight seasons with at least one ATP title win and he is currently defending the French Open crown he won last year with Serbia’s Nenad Zimonjic. Nestor and Mirnyi will face the Italian pair of Fabio Fognini and Filippo Volandri in the second round in Paris.

Lui et son partenaire Max Mirnyi, du Belarus, ont pris la mesure des Français Gaël Monfils et Josselin Ouanna en deux manches de 7-6 (6) et 6-3.
Nestor est le joueur actif comptant le plus grand nombre de victoires de double de l’ATP World Tour. Il a atteint cette marque en jouant avec 21 partenaires différents. Occupant actuellement le 3e rang mondial, il a terminé l’année en tant que numéro un du monde à deux reprises au cours de sa carrière. Il compte déjà six titres du Grand Chelem à son palmarès, dont au moins un à chaque épreuve. Il ne faut pas non plus oublier la médaille d’or qu’il a gagnée en compagnie de Sébastien Lareau aux Jeux olympiques de 2000 de Sydney. « Considérant le nombre d’années qu’il a déjà joué, il est évident que Daniel est un joueur dédié à son sport. » affirmait Lareau. « Il a un service et une touche incroyables, mais ce qui m’impressionne le plus c’est qu’il ait été en mesure de demeurer très compétitif durant toutes ces années. »
Au cours des 18 dernières années, Nestor a conquis au moins un titre par saison. Il tentera de défendre son titre à Roland-Garros qu’il avait remporté avec le Serbe Nenad Zimonjic l’an dernier. Au deuxième tour, Nestor et Mirnyi croiseront le fer avec les Italiens Fabio Fognini et Filippo Volandri.
