In fall 2010, MWKF grew their afterschool program by adding a kindergarten class and expanding into their former space at the Emmett Reed Community Center. They currently serve 160+ students in grades K-12, offering a full afterschool program and life skills curriculum. And for every child they serve, there are easily 10 or 20 more who need their services.
Each child they serve has unique needs. Some require academic assistance while others need help with positive behavior choices. They strive to help each child reach its potential–academically, physically, emotionally and socially. To provide the support that is needed for the children to succeed in an impoverished community (where the median household income is $22,000) and gunshots can be heard not far from the center at times, our readers support for MWKF is more critical than ever.
