Victoria Azarenka may have looked fit and commanding as she took another step closer to a third successive Australian Open title but the world no.2 admitted she was exhausted and in need of new motivation for tennis at the end of last year.
Not a huge surprise given current form, but Caroline Wozniacki was defending fourth round points. She will lose her Top Ten spot. Garbine Muguruza is up to #35 -- and seems sure to climb even higher. Maybe not this week, but soon.

By contrast to Azarenka, Sharapova spent three and a half hours feeling the full burden of the heat; it's a good thing she has a day off! Karin Knapp managed to add a few points but will fall at least one ranking spot, from #44 to #45.
