Watching the progression of play at a tennis tournament is rather like opening a present that reveals yet another mystery package and yet another, until the final match is at hand. The time finally arrives where it is a surety that the last ribbon will be untied, and the unknown becomes a statistic in the record books.
Top seed Ana Ivanovic has been cutting a swathe through the Aegon Classic draw in Birmingham this week and will play for a place in the final of the WTA Premier event on Saturday when she takes on China’s Shuai Zhang.

The full entry list for the BB&T Atlanta Open, the first stop during this summer's U.S. Open Series, was revealed earlier this week. Among others rounding out the field are Lleyton Hewitt, Radek Stepanek, Dmitry Tursunov, Vasek Pospisil, and 2013 runner-up Kevin Anderson.
I can't imagine anyone who is not enthused for next season when there are three weeks in between the French Open and Wimbledon instead of the current two. I'm certainly looking forward to it.

She will bid for a place in the semi-finals of the WTA Premier event in Birmingham on Friday after a pulling off a timeless 6-4, 6-0 win over defending champion Daniela Hantuchova on a day of surprises at the Priory Club on Thursday.
