For the most part it was a solid week at the Memphis Open for Americans, especially Donald Young and Sam Querrey. Both men reached the singles semifinals and Young also finished runner-up in doubles with partner Artem Sitak.

On the eve of the Rio Open presented by Claro, Rafael Nadal and David Ferrer experienced what it is like to be part of one of the biggest spectacles on earth, the Rio Carnaval. Not even the heavy rain that hit Rio de Janeiro on Sunday stopped the party plans of the top two seeds.

Kei Nishikori had struggled all the way to the final here. Kevin Anderson had looked very solid. So what happened come the final? Nishikori was in pretty complete charge.

Rafael Nadal will make a third consecutive appearance in February's Golden Swing in South America when he takes the court this week at the Rio Open. Nadal enters as the defending champion, having won the inaugural Rio tournament by beating Alexandr Dolgopolov in last year's final.

Donald Young booked a spot in his fourth career ATP semifinal and he is one win from a second appearance in a title match after beating Bernard Tomic 7-6(8), 4-6, 7-5 on Friday afternoon at the Memphis Open. The American prevailed after two hours and 14 minutes of back-and-forth momentum swings.
