The first time I saw Austrailian’s Lleyton Hewitt was during the 2000 US Open semi-finals where he played the great Pete Sampras. It was the ultimate underdog versus the great champion match up. Sampras had been proudly wearing the mantle of American tennis and was already seen as one of the greatest players of all time.

Middle Sunday @ wimby. Serena & Venus are both out of the singles, but they aren't packing up & leaving London just yet. They are playing doubles together. Not the same for Flipkens. She is out. Sorry Flip. Once you've tasted semis at Wimbledon one tends to put too much pressure on themselves.
Before the middle Sunday of no play at Wimbledon, the third round will wrap up with what should be a bang on Saturday. Both Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal are back in action and taking on unseeded opponents. Perhaps the most intriguing matchup pits John Isner against Feliciano Lopez.
Biggest casualty of the day was 13th seed Richard Gasquet who blew a 2-set lead against talented teen Nick Kyrgios who tweeted that he’d played his heart out, but he earned his third round place saving nine match points along the way for a 3-6 6-7(4) 6-4 7-5 10-8 victory.
The two biggest names in tennis are still in the Wimbledon draw despite each having tough second-round matchups on Thursday. Rafael Nadal exacted revenge for a 2012 defeat at the All-England Club by overcoming Lukas Rosol in four sets.
Whilst there was not as much carnage on the lush green grass of SW19 as last year, there were still some impressive names who fell.
The round of 32 will take final shape after action is completed on Thursday. Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal are expected to be among those still alive, but the two former champions do not have easy second-round matchups on their hands.
