Around the water cooler, there’s been a lot of talk about the meaning of Olympic tennis. Some say it is not the pinnacle of the sport, that the four majors offer significantly more value to the players, and the world’s best professionals handle an Olympic loss far better than a slam loss.
The Olympics have been good for tennis and tennis good for the Olympics. Any sport needs exposure and any sporting event, even one as big as the Olympics, needs big names creating big stories.
If there had been any doubts about Juan Martin Del Potro's U.S. Open status, his amazing run to the silver medal at the Rio Olympics erased all of it.
