There is only one ticket in town next week! The French Open is finally here, and after weeks of confidence-issues, first clay court titles, favourites falling and old faithfuls prevailing, it’s all eyes on Paris for the next two weeks!
Nine times French Open champion Rafael Nadal has fallen to the no.7 spot in today's Emirates ATP World Tour rankings, his lowest position for more than a decade. However with the start of Roland Garros less than two weeks away, the former world no.1 tried to put on a brave face following his emphatic final defeat at the Mutua Madrid Open by Andy Murray.
Andy Murray had a simple explanation for his new found ability to win clay court titles. "Marriage works," wrote the Scot in the long-time requisite signing of the television lens following his stunning victory over Rafael Nadal to win the Mutua Madrid Open title to silence 16,000 of the Spanish tennis icon's adoring fans.
Well not quite the clouds, but a cerveza at the airport, watching the men’s final on livescore brings to mind the main takeaway from this trip – the scheduling all round was… interesting!
Partly due to injuries, partly to poor play, and partly due to the luck of the draw, there has been a surprising halt to the Andy Murray vs. Rafael Nadal rivalry.

Two-time defending champion Rafael Nadal advanced to the quarterfinals of the Mutua Madrid Open with a 6-2, 6-2 rout of Simone Bolelli on Thursday afternoon. Nadal needed just one hour and 12 minutes--a blink of an eye by his standards--to set up a showdown with Grigor Dimitrov.
Philipp Kohlschreiber and Andy Murray can't seem to do anything on time. They were supposed to play the Munich final on Sunday; they played on Monday.
Well now that all depends on your point of view really. In the red corner (we would say pink, but we’re not in the mood for stereotypes this evening!) we had Maria Sharapova weather a comeback from the feisty Caroline Garcia.

Tennis is rich with rivalries; McEnroe and Borg, Evert and Navratilova, Sampras and Agassi, Federer and Nadal. However the battle for one-upmanship between the two June-staged grass court tournaments at Queen’s Club, London and Halle in Germany has been intense for the last 22 years.
Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer could face each other in the semifinals of the Mutua Madrid Open, but Nadal--and Federer, for that matter--will not be looking that far ahead.
One of the issues that befall this chick is getting about in Spain. Staying in someone’s apartment just a few minutes’ walk away from the Caja Magica and as luck would have it, two other tennis nuts are staying at the same place.
