The lack of preparation and niggling injuries as we approach the last few months of the season yet again takes its toll, as Caroline Wozniacki was bundled out of the tournament.
Starting off Day 3 was Madison Keys, playing on Arthur Ashe for the first time. Fair to say there were no nerves as she dominated Tereza Smitkova in the first set.
Still no significant wins for Vera Zvonareva in her comeback (she did beat one wildcard ranked #357). At least she gets the showing-up points, which will help a little; she should go from #634 to around #580.

No sooner did Polona Hercog seem to be coming out of her slump than she got sick.... This costs her her chance to rise above #35.
Barcelona (Mon): Defending Champ Roberta Vinci Victorious In Opener
Maria Sharapova has already clinched the #2 ranking, but the more points she earns here, the less she has to worry after her Rome title comes off.
