The seeds went one-for-three as the first round of the Brussels Open wrapped up on Tuesday, with Kaia Kanepi cruising but Peng Shuai and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova both falling at the Premier stop. Showing few lingering effects from the bilateral foot injury that kept her out of Rome last week, the No.8-seeded Kanepi broke serve six times en route to a one-hour, 17-minute, 63 62 victory.
Marina Erakovic is hurting, so this doesn't really say much about Petra Kvitova's form, but it at least gets her some points. Erakovic, on the other hand, is likely to lose her newly-earned Top Forty spot.
Add Peng Shuai to the list of players who could have played Fed Cup for all it matters. This leaves her Top 25 ranking in some danger after Stosur takes her out
Maria Sharapova has already clinched the #2 ranking, but the more points she earns here, the less she has to worry after her Rome title comes off.
