Wimbledon 2015 is almost over. The team from 10sBalls_com is all packed up. Most are asleep already. I'm just tying up loose ends. We've been in the United Kingdom since June 10. In a few hours it will all be in the record books.
With all the talk about nerves, and (perhaps even more disrespectfully) how Muguruza was just happy to be there, it was perhaps a stark reminder that even the great and the good get the jitters.
Today was going to be all about the men – as the mighty ATP warriors made their bid for a place in the Wimbledon final...
One of the things I always enjoy doing is passing the time of day with the hard working souls on the press desk. After the stress of the potential travel disruption setting the tone for the day, it has to be noted that Day 9 seems to be a bugbear in Slam coverage.
As if the pouring rain that beat my alarm clock to the pip this morning was not enough, a strike by tube workers (that’s the underground/metro to you at the back) made for a fairly grumpy start to the day.
When is a roof not a roof? No, really this is a serious question. On perhaps the most inclement of days at Wimbledon 2015, when should the roof be pressed into service?
With the bottom of the Ladies Singles draw pretty much ripped apart after Jelena Jankovic bounced defending champion Petra Kvitova out of the draw, the scene was set for more surprises on Manic Monday.
After the rain, the thunder and the lightning of last night came fireworks and glitter for all as Jelena Jankovic pulled off arguably the shock of the tournament so far, ousting defending champion Petra Kvitova 3-6 7-5 6-4.
Has it really only been a week? Well with just one more day of the first week left, the first of the second-weekers booked their spots on a fiery Friday.
With Wimbledon literally melting yesterday (including a small fire in Centre Court late into the evening) it was probably with some relief that the day started a gentle sprinkling of rain...
Phew what a scorcher – that is generally the perceived feeling as this searing ball of flame in the sky is sending everyone all of a dither.
It was all about the ladies at the start of the day, but goodness me, if you’d blinked you missed it. Petra Kvitova has been one of our ones to watch.
Oh my – it’s FINALLY here. Did you see that blur? That was me, whizzing to the head of the Pimm’s queue, asking sweetly for not too much ice, surreptitiously pocketing a sachet of sugar to sweeten the strawberries and cream.
There must be something in the water in Switzerland. These Swiss seem to have a knack on playing on the green stuff, which is strange as Bencic admitted to us on Friday that they don’t actually have grass courts there.
It is always a bit mental on Wimbledon draw day. Those of us who scamper into the media centre listen intently to the draw being done on the ‘wireless’ (albeit digitally via our electronic typing machines), and we frantically analyse every last permutation before galloping out for a bit of tennis.
