The only sure thing about Roland Garros is the terre battue. The dust leaves its mark on anyone who passes through the gates, whether they are a contender, a world number one or a spectator.

Court Phillippe Chatrier was the scene of another victory for Rafael Nadal Thursday afternoon in Paris. It wasn’t a final match-up, but merely another step up the ladder that is leading to the final Sunday at Roland Garros. June is good for Nadal, as he has celebrated every birthday here since he had his 18th.
No matter that Warren Buffett does not offer $1 billion for a perfect French Open bracket like he does for the NCAA basketball tournament. Nobody would come close. Among those in the third round are Jack Sock, Dusan Lajovic, and Donald Young.

Roland Garros is turning into a good tournament for the American men, helped not least by Donald Young’s run through to the third round. The 24-year-old Young came into the clay-court Grand Slam championship having never won a match on red clay outside the United States...

Roger Federer booked his spot in the third round of the French Open with a 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 victory over Diego Sebastian Schwartzman on Wednesday afternoon. Federer held 14 of 15 service games to advance after one hour and 43 minutes of play.
Today was one of those days. Yes, it was cold and windy and off and on it spit mini-drops of rain; that is, until a deluge just before closing time. As always, on the first Wednesday of Roland Garros “Kid’s Day” is celebrated and as usual the grounds were swarming with excited youngsters...
