Attempting to bounce back from a tough loss has become commonplace for Rafael Nadal, who is faced with this situation yet again as he heads into the Internazionali BNL d’Italia. The Spaniard at least made it to the Madrid final last week, but he got upset in convincing 6-3, 6-2 fashion by an in-form Andy Murray.

Tennis is rich with rivalries; McEnroe and Borg, Evert and Navratilova, Sampras and Agassi, Federer and Nadal. However the battle for one-upmanship between the two June-staged grass court tournaments at Queen’s Club, London and Halle in Germany has been intense for the last 22 years.

With the start of the French Open still more than three weeks away, the gamesmanship and psychological maneuvering may have already begun at the top of the men's game, with both Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic coach Boris Becker tipping the slumping Rafael Nadal to win a tenth Roland Garros title.

Last year's Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters could not have gone any better for the Swiss. Both Roger Federer and Stan Wawrinka reached the title match (won by Wawrinka in three sets). This year's tournament, however, was a borderline disaster.

Roger Federer beats Jeremy Chardy in Monte Carlo 6-2,6-1 in under an hour. 54:44 minutes to be exact. That was a not a match anyone should have showed up late for ... Today's conditions were heavier than yesterday's. Roger had five aces to Jeremy's one. Jeremy had five double faults to Rogers one.
