WTA - 's-Hertogenbosch (Mon): Top 2 Seeds Stosur & Errani Upset
World No. 8 Marion Bartoli, World No. 10 Angelique Kerber, World No. 13 Sabine Lisicki, World No. 16 Dominika Cibulkova and former World No. 1 Jelena Jankovic lead the player field for the Mercury Insurance Open presented by Tri-City Medical Center, a Premier WTA tennis tournament which is also part of the summer’s Emirates Airline US Open Series.
Samantha Stosur will hit the former, knocking Serena Williams down to #6; Dominika Cibulkova will not hit the latter, meaning that Li Na will probably cling to the #10 spot. Cibulkova will be #11.
Her kick serves and huge topspin forehands made even more lethal on the clay of Court Philippe Chatrier, Sam Stosur stormed into the semifinals of the French Open on a sunny Tuesday afternoon, hanging on to take the first set then rolling past Dominika Cibulkova for a 64 61 win.
ITF Junior World Champion Irina Khromacheva was the first notable seed to exit Junior Roland Garros when she lost on the opening day to German qualifier Antonia Lottner. The No. 4 seed, who finished as runner-up to Ashleigh Barty at 2011 Junior Wimbledon, won just three games in a match which lasted one hour 11 minutes.
One more win and Angelique Kerber could rise as high as #7.
In the first set of this, Alberta Brianti played very well, and in the first part of the second set, Victoria Azarenka seemed to lose track of where the court was. But Azarenka came to life from 4-2 down in the second set....
It really doesn't matter much what Agnieszka Radwanska does this week; she needs a final to budge her ranking total, and she will be #3 no matter what
Roland Garros winner Li Na is grappling with a fear of failure on the eve of her Grand Slam title defense with the Chinese sports heroine frightened about closing out wins.
There isn't really much to say about this except that Caroline Wozniacki still hasn't earned any points.
Another promising result for Garbine Muguruza Blanco, but she remains below #130 after Julia Georges wins the match
Serena Williams is still at #10 in safe points; another win would take her to #9 and she looks ready for more wins....
