If you are in the Los Angeles area come watch some great tennis.
Germany got the job done on the soccer field last weekend and it is still taking care of business this week on the tennis court. The host nation of the bet-at-home Open is sending three representatives through to the quarterfinals, with Philipp Kohlschreiber being joined by upstarts Alexander Zverev and Tobias Kamke.
The singles quarterfinals are set at the USTA Player Development Women’s $50,000 Classic in Carson, Calif., at the USTA Training Center – West at The StubHub Center.
Michaela Krajicek from the Netherlands had a win over Auzzie Storm Sanders. It was a bagel and a French fry. Poor Storm was under the weather but gave it her best . Our friend Olivia Rogowska is the number one seed and she won her match.
I wasn't able to make it to Carson for Tuesday's matches. I spend a lot of time trying to keep track of what's happening to some of my current or former students, or just to players I am interested in online. I wanted to see the second round qualifying match of one of my former students, Danielle Lao. I was a little late and they got off to a quick start and when I arrived Danielle seemed to have the situation well in hand...
Day two of qualifying was completed today at the USTA Player Development Women’s $50,000 Classic in Carson, Calif. Six Americans and five of the top eight seeds in qualifying are still alive going into tomorrow’s final day of play, where four players from qualifying will advance to the main draw.
The USTA Pro Circuit event is taking the place for a women’s tournament in Yakima, Wash., that was faced with a fire in mid-May. The fire destroyed the host site’s clubhouse and impacted some of the adjoining tennis courts.
