Well not quite the clouds, but a cerveza at the airport, watching the men’s final on livescore brings to mind the main takeaway from this trip – the scheduling all round was… interesting!
Partly due to injuries, partly to poor play, and partly due to the luck of the draw, there has been a surprising halt to the Andy Murray vs. Rafael Nadal rivalry.

After the scheduling of the Mutua Madrid Open forced Andy Murray to conclude his second round victory over Philipp Kohlschreiber at 3am and dictated the tournament's second seed would have to be back on court just a matter of hours later for his next match, the ATP World Tour have promised to investigate.

The Mutua Madrid Open had it all on Wednesday. A marathon in a marquee women's matchup (Serena Williams saved three match points in a win over Victoria Azarenka), hometown dominance (five Spanish men advanced to the last 16, including upsets by Marcel Granollers and Fernando Verdasco), and a 3:00 a.m. finish (Andy Murray vs. Philipp Kohlschreiber).

Tennis is rich with rivalries; McEnroe and Borg, Evert and Navratilova, Sampras and Agassi, Federer and Nadal. However the battle for one-upmanship between the two June-staged grass court tournaments at Queen’s Club, London and Halle in Germany has been intense for the last 22 years.
After the loaded schedule of Sunday, it was nice to be almost able to take a breath before Madrid whips up another storm on Tuesday.

Once again, all action in Germany was rained out. In the singles final, Andy Murray and Philipp Kohlschreiber were on serve after five games; in the doubles, it was tied at 1-1.
