Roger Federer began his late tune-up for the US open by winning his opening match 6-3, 7-6(7) over good friend Philipp Kohlschreiber as his back pain issues from last month faded away.
Philipp Kohlschreiber will face Roger Federer for the eighth time and will be seeking his first win in that series after defeating former Cincinnati Masters finalist Mardy Fish 7-5, 6-2.
