At 2-3 in the third set, Mats Wilander commented on EuroSport on Federer's aggressiveness forcing Murray to start going forward himself: "…and suddenly we are looking at a completely different style of tennis, … and how healthy would that be?"
The Australian Open is well into its second week and we found out tonight that we will have a new mens champion. As Stanislas Wawrinka took out the 3 time defending champion Novak Djokovic, in a dramatic 5 set marathon win. Stan avenged the previous 14 losses in a row to Djoker...
Every morning during the Australian Open I walk to the tennis which is about a mile away from my hotel. During my walk I cross a bridge, underneath there are train tracks leading to Melbourne train station. Despite being a good photo opportunity with the skyline behind me I think it's a cool way to illustrate the tennis tour and especially the 4 grand slams.
Today was a long one. For the first time all tourney the heat rule came into affect and pushed tennis back in to the wee hours of the night. The day concluded with 5 setters spread all over the grounds, the upset of the tournament so far was my guy Del Po going out in the 2nd rd.
Men play one semifinal Thursday, 1/23 but it is a night match. The women, however, will play two semifinals on that day and the second of those will face some challenge from the heat, but nothing like they are facing today and tomorrow.
The heat continues to play a big role in this years AO. While it's supposed to cool down dramatically by the weekend, some players are finding it difficult to make it to week 2. Go ahead and put Djokovic in the finals, only threat on his half of the draw is Berdych, but I don't think he can hang with Djoker in best of 5.
It's often been said of Melbourne that you can see all four seasons in the same day. Not anymore. So far all we have seen is serious summer and it's a scorcher. Hot. Hotter and consistently hot. Day and night.
Its hot out! Or at least thats what everyone is saying, tweeting, insta-gramming, and posting screen grabs of the weeks forecast of. I don't know, except for my walk into work this morning I spent all day in the ESPN production truck working on the telecast of the days matches, but from what I could see, it was a steamy one!
The Australian Open is finally under way and the big story after day one is, its going to get hotter, much hotter. We are talking well into triple digits for the foreseeable future hot. But it is summer down under, and these are some of the worlds best athletes so they should be ready for it, right?
Hello! This is my friend Matt Hill, Matty is one of the best live action sports camera men in the world. Here he shoots Andy Murray as he gets ready to practice on Rod Laver Arena in anticipation of the years first grand slam.
Nadal faces an interesting first round in a hot Bernard Tomic, but Rafa got plenty of prep in winning Doha and should be ready for the Aussie. If it happens, his third round match against Monfils could be a tougher challenge. Monfils was able to take a set in the finals of Doha.
The weekend before any grand slam is the players last chance to fine tune their games heading into the grueling 2 week test that is the Australian Open! I got a chance to watch Rafa practice this afternoon, its nice to see him back on the blue courts in Melbourne after not playing last year because of injury.
Hello everyone, I made it down under after 31 hours door to door travel. But once down here it's " differently" worth it, the weather is hot and the days are long, 2 things that should make for some good tennis and an exciting tournament ahead!
Brett Connors sent this photo out over instagram. Don't try this at home. Brett is a professional photographer and director. Yes, Brett put his "go pro" camera in the oven. So he basically got the whole family in the shot. It's really awesome. We had to share it.
Change begins with a thought, a voice, an action launched into the sea of humanity where it strikes the water’s surface and submerges into the deep.
