Well, I broke down today and made my commitment to renew my TennisTV subscription.
In the end, that's what really matters. The crowd loved it. And that crowd was a full house!
Looking back, it was an amazing year. It started off with the 6 hour final Down Under between Nole and Rafa.
It's not mathematically impossible yet; just highly unlikely. If I were a London bookie, I'd be trying to make some money off Federer fans
At least that is the situation if Djokovic follows the schedule outlined on his personal website, entering Beijing, Shanghai and Paris leading up to the ATP World Tour Finals in London in November. Here are the schedules (according to their websites), for Federer, Djokovic and Murray until the end of the year. Note that the ATP 1000's carry a maximum of 1000 points and the ATP 500's carry a maximum of 500 points to the winner. The ATP World Tour carries a potential 1500 points.
Nadal may actually be more of a threat in the ranking race because he has just 190 points to defend in Canada and Cincy as well as 1200 for his US Open finals. On top of that, there is the Olympics this summer which will be an extra chance for everyone to pick up some points. As it is played at Wimbledon this year, Roger is one of the favorites.
Well, I finally get to take a deep breath two weeks after my last posting here, but here are some comments on Wimbledon!
I've been busy getting ready for my trip to NY to teach at the Buckskill Tennis Club in Easthampton, NY.
Rafa simply played too well. I should have known that would happen as soon as I picked Djokovic!
Nadal came out on fire and got off to 2-0 leads in each of the first three sets. But after getting down two sets to love, and 2-0 with Nadal serving in the third, Djokovic completely turned the match around; he lost just 12 of the next 48 points. Nadal was just 4 games from making history.
Maria was simply too good. She hit 37 winners in 17 games. In the first set, she doubled 4 times, but she only lost 7 points
Based on the rankings including the results of the fourth round matches, the top 6 players as well as the 9th and 11th ranked players in the world are all in the quarterfinals
The French Open is now into it's third day and no great surprises so far. The draw sets up really well for the favorites. This first week is all about the side stories away from the top 8 seeds, at least on the men's side. The biggest news was the withdrawal of a couple of players, Fish and Monfils.
Two of the top three players in the world had great days at the office today. David Ferrer put forward another great effort in the first set of their Rome semifinal to get to 6-6 in the first set tie-breaker
Almost everyone likes to imagine their favorite team or their favorite player winning. As tennis fans we want to see our favorite players win the Slams and the Masters1000s(men) or Premier(women) events and this year, the Olympics.
