Max Mirnyi To Be Honoured With Stamp Issue

Following in the footsteps of national heroes Roger Federer and Andy Murray, Max Mirnyi will be honoured by BelarusPost with a stamp bearing his image to be released on Wednesday, 14th August.

The doubles veteran won Olympic gold with Victoria Azarenka in the mixed doubles at London 2012, defeating Murray and Laura Robson. The stamp will commemorate the pair’s success. [READ MORE].

But if you spent any time in the company of Vitas Gerulaitis, it did not take long for you to realize that he was an original. Not just the hair and the name and the talent. It was the hyper, funny, intense, smart, super-charged personality that swept you up and carried you off – frequently into a night of non-stop revelry, bouncing from club to club across Manhattan or Paris or LA.

Sometimes fueled by substances he shouldn‘t have been using, Vitas had more vitality and energy and enthusiasm for life than just about anyone I have known. And that went for the player on court as well as the man off court.

After playing one of the greatest matches in Wimbledon history against his great pal Bjorn Borg in the 1977 semi-final, some of us repaired to Tramp, London’s legendary discotheque. [READ MORE].

McEnroe Doesn’t Like The State of The Doubles Game

The Bryan brothers are going for the Grand Slam at the US Open and have already clinched the year end No. 1 ranking, even though it’s only August. A lot of other top doubles players keep switching partners and it appears that the Bryans are now the only consistently popular doubles duo on tour.

John McEnroe, who won seven Grand Slam singles titles as well seven Grand Slam doubles titles, likes to watch his fellow former Stanford Cardinal players win crowns, but doesn’t like the status of today’s double circuit overall.

“The Bryans are doing a great job trying to prop up doubles,” said McEnroe who will work as an analyst for ESPN as well as CBS during the US Open. “Without them it would be in even worse shape than it is. They can only play who is in front of them. [READ MORE].
