Queens, Aegon, Tennis and A Little More   |

It’s a beautiful day at Queens Club. A Spectacular Friday. It’s been a tough week. Lots of rain showers coming and going and wreaking havoc on the schedule and draw. Lots of players played two matches in a day to catch up. Back to today. Andy Murray had just come on court against Ben Becker. The Aegon blue banners look awesome around the clubhouse and grounds. Tennis is lucky that the exclusive clubs membership allow themselves to be invaded for this event. Thank you members ! Thank you Aegon. Thank you Hillary.

The odd bits that are running thru my mind are : why is Gael Monfil not playing Wimbledon ? We know he isn’t allergic to grass ( old excuse of Ivan Lendl )

We noticed the linesman on the Halle court in black suits. They look like undertakers no?

During the French Open we noticed most of the guy players are now taking two towels with them from end to end. With the new time clock they give a towel to each ball kids on both sides of the baseline.

Tea time is over I’m back to Queens or as the ATP refers to it ” London” . Tea breaks are a good idea.Maybe in London tennis can implement a quickie. Imagine how Ben Becker might perk up right now he is down 1-4 in the first set. The sky is blue blue. Not a cloud to be seen anywhere. The men in the stands shirtsleeves are rolled up. The airplanes are flying over. At times it sounds like Flushing meadows. What meadows you say ?

the grounds crew here need a major applause. For all the bad weather this week the courts still look great and are playing great. Bravo to the hardest job there is. Maintaining the Grass. If it was easy there would be a grass court in my backyard and the season would be longer.

Go Andy ! Cheers. It’s time for a Pimms.
