It was an historic week for Serena Williams at the Olympic Tennis Event, not just winning the singles gold medal (just the second woman ever to complete the Career Golden Grand Slam, after Steffi Graf) but also the doubles gold medal with Venus Williams (they are the first two tennis players ever, male or female, to win four Olympic gold medals). World No.1 Victoria Azarenka also won a gold medal, in the mixed doubles with countryman Max Mirnyi.
Over at the International-level Citi Open in Washington DC, Magdalena Rybarikova took out the Top 3 seeds – Chanelle Scheepers, Sloane Stephens and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova – to win her third WTA title. The former Top 40 player is now back in the world’s Top 100.
