Twenty-year-old Serb Bojana Jovanovski became the eighth player to win their first WTA title this year, beating American Julia Cohen in straight sets for the Baku Open. Jovanovski’s best result before this was the semifinals of the Premier-level tournament in Sydney last year.
Over in London – on the celebrated lawns of the All-England Club, to be exact – the Olympic Tennis Event has already seen its first two days of competition, with two of the Top 5 seeds already out: No.5 seed Sam Stosur lost to Carla Suarez Navarro on Saturday, No.2 seed Agnieszka Radwanska lost to Julia Goerges on Sunday. Maria Sharapova and Serena Williams cruised, while World No.1 Victoria Azarenka will finally play her first rounder on Monday.
