Roger Federer Wins Dubai Title, BNP Paribas Preview

Boy what a weekend of tennis as Federer takes the Dubai title, Del Ray is still going strong, and Acapulco is coming to a close too. I think all tennis fans cheered Federer for returning to championship form this week and hope he can continue it into Indian Wells. I think we were all on the edge of our seats during his match with Del Potro, I think it’s characteristic of Federer matches to include a tiebreak that he ends up pulling out, if you look at history he has one of the best tie break records ever. Rog is definitely loved in Dubai because he spends his off season training there and is now their 5-time champion, but I think the fans in Dubai also appreciate his classic demeanor on the court, the class he upholds, and his routine excellence. Since Dubai is such an economic powerhouse, the trends that he exemplifies on court seem to bear personal weight with each fan/resident of the area. [READ MORE].

The Ice Cool Lendl Effect

“If you are patient in one moment of anger, you will escape a hundred days of sorrow.”

It has been just 2 months since Lendl joined Murray Camp and what a difference he has already started to make. Andy Murray seems to have found a new self completely different from his older version. From the whining kid who used to shout more than the winners hit on the court, he has transformed into a calm and focused man.

Breaking racquet or glass is the option tried out by many including Murray but courtesy Lendl the most important lesson he has learnt is the ability to channelize his frustration to positive energy and vent it out in your game just like Djokovic/Nadal. No matter how tough his situation is, he now tries to battle it out rationally rather than losing it. [READ MORE].

Andy Gator Chomps Again—Nathan’s Notice

By: Nathan M. Cuny

I’ve been waiting all week long to write this story! No. 4 Andy Murray defeated No.1 Novak Djokovic in the Dubai World Tennis Championship semifinals, 6-2, 7-5 on Friday. Now take one second to let that sink in. Murray’s victory and Djokovic’s loss spells many outcomes for both men. For Murray it was the sweet taste of revenge after his semifinal’s loss to Djokovic at the Australian Open. For Djokovic it means he won’t start 2012 with a 43 match winning streak with Murray breaking it at 10. [READ MORE].

The State of the Game – Part VI Murray Steps Up Against Nole, Federer Rolls On

We had the two semifinals in Dubai early this morning. This is where we get to find out what kind of shape Federer, Djokovic and Murray are really in and whether or not Del Potro is ready to go another step towards regaining the form he achieved winning the US Open in 2009. Or so we hoped. Nole and Andy led off the activities with the first match. They both started off very strong with Murray serving first; Andy lost just 4 points his first three service games as he made 12 out of 16 first serves. [READ MORE].
