Paris

Singles – Second Round (2) Marion Bartoli def. Petra Martic 7-5 6-1

This isn’t enough points yet to count for Marion Bartoli. But the better she does here, the better her chances of staying #7. It’s guaranteed if she makes the final.

Singles – Second Round (7) Roberta Vinci def. (Q) Bethanie Mattek-Sands 6-3 1-6 6-3

Bethanie Mattek-Sands was defending semifinalist points, so this will hit hard — she will fall from #68 to not much above #80. Plus she is hurt. She had to call the trainer out in the third set, and was never really in it after that.

Singles – Second Round (9) Angelique Kerber def. Monica Niculescu 6-3 4-6 6-3

Monica Niculescu loses her Top Thirty shot, but Angelique Kerber is looking more and more likely to reach the Top 25.

Singles – Second Round Klara Zakopalova def. Tsvetana Pironkova 6-0 6-3

Another second round, another Tsvetana Pironkova loss…. She will end up around #45. Klara Zakopalova ought to return to the Top Fifty as a result of this.

Singles – Second Round (Q) Mona Barthel def. (WC) Pauline Parmentier 6-3 6-0

Mona Barthel already won her first title this year, and continues to look promising. She has now clinched a Top Forty spot. At the rate she is going, a Roland Garros seed looks certain.

Singles – Second Round Yanina Wickmayer def. Christina McHale 6-2 7-5

Christina McHale has been playing pretty well lately, but it wasn’t very evident from this match. It was close to a rout. Yanina Wickmayer has now defended her points, and should gain at least one ranking spot; additional wins will gain her at least one each. McHale adds points, but because Mona Barthel gained more, she will actually lose a ranking spot.

Doubles – Quarterfinal: (4) Niculescu/Rosolska def. Safarova/Zakopalova 6-2 6-2

Doubles – Quarterfinal: Craybas/Zakopalova def. (WC) Coin/Parmentier 2-6 7-5 10-7 (Match TB)

Jill Craybas hurt her leg in singles on Wednesday, so this was a pretty good win.
