*All or Nothing at the Open*

23 January 2012

The start of this last week of the Open brings with it the exciting prospect of a champion at the end of it all, as the first champion of the Tennis year! The remaining players will definitely give it their all for such an appealing title, and of course they will stop at nothing to win it. If they go home, they have gained the invaluable experience of playing with stonger rivals and at least they know they tried. The final 8 Men and Women stand to battle for the #1 spot. We see that the best of the best are present as, not surprisingly, Djokovic, Murray, Tsonga, Nadal, Federer, Berdych, Nishikori, and Del Potro stand in each others’ sights. While, on the Women’s side we see that Errani, Sharapova, Kvitova, Azarenka, Clijsters, Makarova, Radwanska, and Wozniacki wait to see which two players will make it by the end of this week. Continue to support your favorite player(s) mates because this is the last stretch for him/her and we all want to see them win.

Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer Credit Hewitt’s Melbourne Performance
© “DAILY TENNIS NEWS WIRE”

Rafael Nadal is well known as a fine sportsman who always gives credit where it is due. And he has been very impressed with the run that Lleyton Hewitt has enjoyed and the qualities he has shown at the Australian Open.

“I admire him a lot,” said the Spaniard. “I think he deserve all the respect of the people who love this sport and respect and admiration of everyone…” [READ MORE].

The Women’s Quarters, Aussie Open 2012 Who is the fastest talker? Clijsters or Radwanska?
The Women’s Quarterfinals could easily go completely according to form; that is, the top 4 seeds appear likely to fulfill their placements and reach the semifinals, with one possible exception.

Clijsters/Wozniacki. I might have picked Clijsters to upset the reigning world number one on the big stage, but the ankle sprain she suffered against Li Na is likely to give Caroline too big an advantage to exploit. Faced with the opportunity to avenge her loss in last year’s final against a hobbled Clijsters, Li Na simply choked. There’s just no other way to put it. Normally, Kim moves as well as anyone in the women’s game, but against Li Na she manufactured a win with hardly any mobility and lots of guts. Finally, the sun played its role and took what little energy Li Na had not lost to her nerves. It was painful to watch. On the other hand, Wozniacki continued to move through the draw with a straight sets, if challenging, win against Jelena Jankovic. She will be very fit and well rested for her match with Kim. I don’t think Kim can beat her on 1 1/2 legs. [READ MORE].

The Federer Effect XI – “Feddy, Feddy, Feddy!!…..X, X, X!!”
I think we can all agree that for the great Roger Federer the Australian Open really started with a potentially dangerous match against “Ivo The Giant”, capable of blowing anybody on the tour off the court with that mutant serve. Not only did Roger get the job done in three straight sets, he created some magnificent highlight footage with his unbelievable response to Ivo’s dropshot in the middle of the court, somehow Federer got a racket under the ball and lifted it underhanded straight up over a the giant’s outreached arms… sick. Then the defensive backhand SLICE lob over the backhand side of the mid court positioned Ivo… a thing of beauty.

Last night’s highly anticipated Federer match was with the Aussie teenager Bernard Tomic, a player with loads of natural creative ability and clearly apart of the next generation that will be leading the pack. The exciting part of Tomic’s game is the level of intangibles, the part of his game that isn’t taught to him, it’s just released by him and cause severe headaches for his opponents. [READ MORE].
