The WTA were very satisfied with their week of the WTA Championships in Istanbul, but still its Chairman and CEO Stacey Allaster would like to see their season climax enhanced even further by combining the women’s finale with that of the men’s.
But the ATP doesn’t hold the same vision. The end of the WTA and ATP seasons are at present weeks apart, and the ATP simply feels it has nothing to gain by linking their event with the WTA’s.
“We are extremely happy with the success of the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals as the season-ending showcase of the men’s professional tennis circuit and are not looking to make any major changes to our event,” said a spokesman for the ATP.
In 2012, the WTA Championships will be held in the week of October 22nd, while the ATP World Tour Finals, although held earlier than present, commences in the week of November 5th.
