The start of the first set was a bit shaky. Anastasija Sevastova got a break and a 2-0 and a 3-1 lead against super player Caroline Wozniaki.
That was as much as the Latvian was going to get from Wozniacki in the first set. The Dane didn’t lose another game after that and took the opening set 6-3.
In the second set the Dane broke in the opening game. Sevastova made a comeback and levelled the match 4-4. At that point Wozniacki stepped up and showed everyone why she is the world No.1, she broke the Latvian’s serve and then served for the match, taking the second set 6-4.
Wozniacki knows she is under a bit of pressure but she said, “I don’t think it matters who is the favourite. I think in the end its who wins the tournament. I mean you can play unbelievable tennis, but you lose.” Coming up next is either French Open champ Francesca Schiavone or Russian hotshot Svetlana Kuznetsova.
The Dane is good friends with both her potential opponents, she knows their games really well. She is determined to stay focused and not to worry about everything around her.
