Indian Wells ,California. The BNP Paribas tourney is an oasis in the Coachella Valley, played @ the Indian Wells tennis “sort of gardens” (not an abundance of flowers or greenery) But It’s still an amazing site. One of the largest sites for a tennis venue. Larry Ellison has taken a site and turned it into a bustling venue. It is FANTASTIC. Totally amazing transformation in under a year. You feel like it’s truly the U.S. Open of the West. Larry has Hawk-eye on every court. The new stadium two is magnificent. With plans to make a permanent stadium three and four, we are sure glad billionaires love tennis.
10sballs arrived in full force last week to prepare for the next two weeks of hard work and fun, fun, fun. We have the whole crew, Big Boss, Geezer, Pancho, and me. Yesterday we saw our old buddy Greg Rusedski here to help out a young British player named Konta whose coach couldn’t make the trip. Greg had just arrived after flying three connecting flights from Acapulco. We saw our old Auzzie buddy Marty Mulligan He kept throwing Fila stuff our way. Hats , visors and wrist bands. Fila sure makes great clothes wore them most of my career. Also saw the lady from Wagga Wagga, Australia. That’s Louise Pleming the gorgeous chick from the land down under. She too was very jet lagged from arriving from Mexico. We enjoyed a visit from Rick Leach who was out practicing with Jim Courier for their night exo against Mr. Cranky Pants himself John McEnroe and Peter Fleming. We saw our buddy “Moose ” also known as Brett Steven the husband of Cara Black. Cara and their toddler were already here but Moose had just arrived from Melbourne and travelling 36 hours. It was cute to see the family re unite and share a meal. We also had a great visit with our dear friend Michaela Krajicek. She is in ladies qualies but main draw dubs. It’s been many moons since we caught up….
The staff and crew of the Indian Wells Tennis Garden have worked tirelessly to make certain that the 2014 tourney is the best ever. The pre qualie draw had over 200 entrants. Qualies starts tomorrow.
The big buzz is about the restaurant Nobu being built on site into stadium two. Nobu @ a tennis event. Should be interesting watching the lines to get in. No reservations. First come first served. Funny more players will be dining there than the players restaurant.
