VITTORIO SELMI ATP TENNIS GODFATHER WEIGHS IN • MAX MIRNYI RETIREMENT  |

And so the day has come when MAX MIRNYI officially announced his retirement from competitive tennis after some 22 years on the ATP Tour.

Unlike many of his colleagues he decided to exit from the back door after having supported his country in Davis Cup one more time in a fall afternoon in Bratislava, Slovakia.

Max Mirnyi, I always admired your professional attitude towards the game, your behaviour on and off the court but even more than that I will always treasure your loyal friendship over the years.

Thanks for all the fun moments together at the tournaments, or on the planes, or in the Opera Houses around the world, or during the many meals together including the one at 3 in the morning, after you lost a 5 set fantastic thriller to Guga, in a small colombian restaurant in Manhattan where you and your dad and mentor Nikolai Mirnyi could hardly fit under the table.

I hope our lunch at this year’s Wimbledon (see picture) won’t be the last one together but if so, there would be no better place in the world!

Surrounded by your beautiful wife Ksenia Mirnaya and by your lovely kids I am sure the future holds many more great moments for you!
