What a start. First match in the new stadium and bye bye ladies number one seed and WTA World Number One. Simona Halep. Losing to Estonian Kaia Kanepi. Coached by our Global Ambassador Dusan Vemic. Now that’s a great way to start a Slam. • The U.S. Open • A new stadium.• Start a Monday.• And way to play! Aggressive! It’s NYC . It the U.S. OPEN hit hard! Big congrats.
Biggest congrats also to Julie Heldman whose just released her book on open tennis and her life being the daughter of GLADYS Heldman. The title. “Driven” • A Daughters Odyssey • The book is available in the U.S. Open bookstore or AMAZON. We highly recommend it. The book is front and center in the bookshop as well as available on Kindle and AMAZON. Bravo Julie!
You did it!
10sballs lost a few old buddies last week. Robin Leach “Lifestyles of the rich and famous.” Robin was a ton of fun. One night at a pro am and celeb event at La Costa. He was drinking champagne out of every ladies shoes at the table. It was hysterical. Next day he showed up for a hit with the Group. His Shirt was inside out and his vest was backwards. But he showed up. He had a great zest for life. Champagne and caviar.
Also gone to the big tennis court in the sky • A gem of writer Neil Simon. Mostly known worldwide for his PLAYS.
I think we only hit once. He was BIG. He Had all the mediums covered, plays, films, TV. I was nervous. I remember having a hard time eating a Cobb salad for lunch after our hit. All rallies. I remember he had shoulder surgery so no serving or overheads. Just some serious hitting. Strokes so so. But took his tennis very seriously. Tennis was always a good break for writers. I’ve seen that over the years with Ted Braithwaite, Ted Sorenson, amongst them. You do meet interesting people thru tennis… Gotta go have one of those Melon ball drinks.
