Lovey Jergens Journal
July 2018
Wow. Where do we start. Forward. Backward. Sideways. I sound like a tennis player doing on court drills.
Let’s start yesterday. Today already. Sven Groeneveld celebrated the first half of his birthday on an airplane. I’d bet he has spent half of his birthdays in the air.
When you are one of the world’s top tennis coaches or as I see him, a “tennis architect”, you put your miles in at altitude. Happily for the ORANGE COACH he was heading home to spend the celebration amongst his loved ones. Happy Birthday Dear Sven.
Happy Birthday shout out to one of Jared Donaldson’s fitness trainers. He spent his birthday surfing. Hamid Johannes.
Congrats to Rudy and Jonathan in winning Rob Stones “MAK Games” Fundraising tennis Event held At Jimmy Goldstein’s Amazing house with the infinity court.
Big congrats to Artem Sitak. He won the doubles title at the world famous International Newport Hall Of Fame with Israeli Jonathan Erlich. Funny he told his old coach from Saddlebrook “I’ll win it for you!” And he did!
So glad that Artem has his beautiful wife travelling with him. We know Anya enjoyed the “cottages” of Newport Rhode Island. She loves architecture. And is a fabulous artist and designer.
Bravo Team Sitak! Getting a title in Newport after the enshrinement of Michael Stich and Helena Sukova. What a great day.
We remember when Artem won the Historic OJAI CALIFORNIA tourney in singles! Hey RTM since you love History • start winning Slams!
More weddings and gossip. Let’s see. Martina Hingis got married this week. As did Czech star Karolina Pliskova to Michal Hrdilicka.
What else. Let’s see. We missed some birthdays. Sorry Jan-Michael Gambill. First time in years the old “Enforcer” missed one. Hope it was great.
Max Mirnyi reached a semis in Bastad. They lost a close one. 10-4 in third, he and partner Philipp Oswald.
Oh.. Artem. Sorry. Known him since he was a kid. We used to spell it Artiom. He is now 32 years old. Long time. So if I mess up in spelling. Ok. Or my fave RTM. Who, by the way, reaches his dubs ATP ranking high of 34 in the world. He and Jonathan took out Lleyton Hewitt in the first round.
The crowds look thin at Newport. So does the grass. Id call both sparse. Sad but true… (Lower prices. Market better.) TV screens don’t lie…
Saw the Atlanta draw. Glanced it. Our buddy Donald Young to play Ivo Karlovic. This should be a great one. They are old friends and it’s a huge server versus one of the best returners in the game. Yes, Donald you have one of the best returns in the game.
What else. Thinking. We Still feel weird with RF/ no more NIKE deal. $300 million…? I hate to say it. But some here in our office remember when a huge AMERICAN company went under when it couldn’t afford Michael Jackson… Nike will never go under. Roger started a bidding war. Tennis is not that popular. It’s too costly. To learn. To play. To watch. To enjoy. Tennis is complicated. If anyone was ever changing anything it could have been 15, 30, 40. I could never comprehend that as a an 8/10/12 year old to today.
