TIDBITS OF INFO -

– For the second time in four years, Dustin Brown has taken out the previous year’s champion in the first match of their title defense. On Tuesday, Brown defeated 2016 champion Juan Monaco 7-6(7) 6-3. In 2014, Brown beat 2013 winner John Isner en route to the quarterfinals.

– Tommy Haas, the 2004 US Clay champion, earned his first match win since Wimbledon 2015 with his victory over Reilly Opelka. The 39-year-old, who has announced 2017 will be his last season, was playing just his fourth match of the season after missing all of 2016 following an operation on his foot. It was the ninth surgery of his career.

– Tennys Sandgren, a former All-American at the University of Tennessee, will be playing the first ATP World Tour match of his career on Tuesday night. The 25-year-old faces fellow American Ernesto Escobedo to close out the night session.
