Serena Williams Wins Record 23rd Grand Slam Title at Australian Open – Some Are Saying Female GOAT

– The American will regain the WTA World No.1 ranking after winning her seventh Australian Open title

In their 28th meeting, Serena Williams defeated her sister Venus Williams to clinch her 23rd Grand Slam title at the Australian Open. The American now holds the record for most major titles in the Open Era, previously co-owning the record with Stefanie Graf.

“It’s such a great feeling to have 23 [Grand Slams],” said Serena Williams. “I’ve been chasing it for a really long time. When it got on my radar, I knew I had an opportunity to get there, and I’m here.”

By winning her seventh Australian Open title, Williams will also regain the WTA World No.1 ranking – a title she has held for a total of 309 weeks – for the seventh time in her career when the rankings are updated on Monday, January 30.

The 35-year-old is just one Grand Slam title away from equaling Margaret Court’s all-time record of 24 Grand Slam titles.
