WASHED-OUT DAY AT AEGON OPEN NOTTINGHAM SETS UP ACTION-PACKED FINALE

On a rain-hit day, all action at the Aegon Open Nottingham was postponed until Sunday, with quarter-finalists Ana Konjuh and Sachia Vickery potentially having to play three matches in one day to win the Elena Baltacha Trophy.

The winner of their contest will face American fifth seed Alison Riske in the last four after suitable rest, while top seed Agnieszka Radwanska and Romanian Monica Niculescu will do battle in the other semi-final first on Centre Court at the Nottingham Tennis Centre.

Sunday’s action will also see both doubles semi-finals take place with the final also scheduled on a jam-packed day of tennis in the East Midlands.

British hopes will be represented by Nottinghamshire local Jocelyn Rae and her partner Anna Smith, who take on second seeds Yung-Jan Chan and Jie Zheng.

Aegon Open Nottingham tournament director Rebecca James said: “It is unfortunate that we were not able to have any play today. However, we have a bumper day of tennis tomorrow with the aim of completing the finals.
