Katie Swan of Great Britain celebrates winning her semifinal match against Dalma Galfi of Hungary during the Australian Open 2015 Junior Championships at Melbourne Park on January 30, 2015 in Melbourne, Australia.

Sixteen-year-old Katie Swan is set to make her WTA Tour debut after she and fellow Britons Johanna Konta and Naomi Broady were granted wildcards into the Aegon Classic Birmingham.

The WTA Tour Premier event runs 15th-21st June on grass at the Edgbaston Priory Club.

Swan, from Bristol, was runner-up in the Australian Open junior tournament earlier this year. Konta, who is from Eastbourne, reached the quarter-finals of this week’s Aegon Open Nottingham. Stockport-born Broady has twice been a semi-finalist this year on the ITF Pro Circuit, the strata of tournaments below the WTA Tour.

“I think all these players will all add something to the tournament and I’m sure that they’re ready to make the most of the opportunity they’ve been given,” said Aegon Classic Birmingham Tournament Director Patrick Hughesman. “It’s an incredibly strong field this year so they’ll have the chance to compete alongside some of the best players in the world at what is now one of the most prestigious tournaments on the WTA Tour.

Katie is one of our most promising young players and she showed at the Australian Open how much potential she has. Johanna has been playing some very impressive tennis at Nottingham this week, while Naomi is one of our best grass court players. They all deserve their chance in the main draw.”

Britons Harriet Dart, Naomi Cavaday, Emily Webley-Smith and Sarah Beth Askew have all been awarded wildcards into the Aegon Classic Birmingham qualifying draw. The two qualifying rounds will be played over Saturday and Sunday before main draw play begins on Monday.
