Emotion. If there was one word which summed up two weeks of intense, demanding and often brilliant tennis at the BNP Paribas Open that was it. Arms froze; hands shook, tears flowed and even the occasional scream could be heard from the sidelines as players tried to gather themselves and release the tension that was building up inside taught and tired bodies.

Well it’s all over for another year, but what a year this was. First of, of course there was Serena. Her come-back was warm, her play in the first match was maybe decidedly lukewarm but it was enough to get her through to the semi-finals...
It was by no means a flawless final, but Sunday's showdown between Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer brought an appropriate end to what was a thrilling fortnight at the BNP Paribas Open.

If you only had nosebleed seats in Stadium 1 yesterday, we sure do hope you chose to watch some exciting college tennis happening on the Practice Courts instead. These young men laid it all on the line for their schools, gunning for a shot at the 2nd Collegiate Challenge Trophy.
The majority of fans--tournament owner Larry Ellison included--were undoubtedly crushed when an anticipated semifinal showdown between Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal came oh so close to becoming a reality...only to be denied.

While there was certainly a lot going on in Stadium 1 yesterday at the BNP Paribas Open, plenty was happening on the Practice Courts, too, as the Collegiate Challenge got off to an exciting start.
Despite the drama of at least two of the matches on Friday, the biggest shock was reserved for perhaps the biggest star, as 14 years to the that day, Serena Williams had to withdraw from her semi-final match.
