ATP Settles On 60% Refund For Sunday ATP Finals

Following the disappointment of 17,500 paying fans when the climax of the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals was curtailed on Sunday by Roger Federer’s injured back, tournament organizers have announced there will be a 60% ticket refund.

Face value of tickets for the final session of the eight days long event was £110 ($175) but instead of the expected Novak Djokovic/Roger Federer showdown, the capacity crowd were instead entertained by Andy Murray substituting against the champion Serb in an extended professional set and then some hit and giggle doubles involving the Scot along with the more senior trio of John McEnroe, Pat Cash and Tim Henman.

Almost immediately ATP Executive Chairman and President Chris Kermode had promised the paying fans would be given a rebate and after three days of calculations the ATP used its’ own website to issue an apology for the “inconvenience caused”, stating the 60% refund.

An additional statement read: “Following the unfortunate circumstances that prevented the singles final from taking place as part of the final session of the 2014 Barclays ATP World Tour Finals, all ticket holders who purchased regular tickets through authorized ticketing channels will receive an automatic 60% refund.

“Customers will be contacted directly via their respective ticketing outlets with specific details on how they will receive their refund.

Ticket holders for the 2014 final will also receive advanced access to purchase tickets for the 2015 tournament.

“Further information on how to take advantage of this offer will be sent out to all applicable customers in February next year.

“We apologize for any inconvenience caused, and thank you for your support of the season-ending Barclays ATP World Tour Finals.

Editors opinion from 10sballs.com : Chris Kermode made a huge decision . We did a survey around here and We think based on this being the only ATP owned event or at least the biggest that 75 percent refund might have been a better offer. Pancho was actually the lone wolf that said the British fans saw Andy Murray and that was ok. And that what Chris threw together in a moments notice was brilliant and he would have been ok with 50 percent.
